Peter McLeod

We have learnt today of the very sad passing of Peter McLeod.
Peter was a founding member and was instrumental in the formation of the club and it’s activities from the very beginning.
He was highly respected as the manager at the Royal Bank of Scotland in Kinlochleven in the days when if you needed to contact your bank he was always available.
The early regattas had sponsorship from the Bank with yacht races, powerboat races, rowing races, raft races, greasy pole , Highland dancing and a beer tent followed by a packed out dance at the Glencoe Hotel.
There was a marked dip in club activities when the Bank posted him to Tobermory.
On retirement Peter and his wife Jean moved to Ganavan at Oban and he went on to become a very popular Commodore at Royal Highland Yacht club whilst sailing his Yacht Snoopy around the West coast.
He was also well known for his after dinner speaking and was the key speaker at GBC’s 40th anniversary dinner 9 years ago.
In the early 1970’S a competition was held to come up with a design for a Glencoe club burgee, Peters design was chosen and it’s Iconic image has been the clubs emblem ever since.
The club still retains the MacLeod Cup donated by Peter and Jean for its annual regatta and was actually won by Snoopy in 1980.
He will be fondly remembered by all those who knew him at Glencoe, Tobermory and Oban.
He is survived by his two sons Gary and Lorne!
Our sincere condolences to Peter and his family from all at Glencoe Boat Club.
