Keelboat racing at Glencoe Boat Club
The Club ran a very popular, dedicated week night series for keelboat racing at Glencoe Boat Club throughout the Summertime and a weekend series in the Autumn, for decades.
Approximately 20 races were scheduled, including longer-distance races out into Loch Linnhe; these were always well supported with exciting racing due to the very variable wind conditions experienced locally. Competition is keen, but always fun and there are long-standing trophies to be won for the various events.
There is always space for volunteer crew on the keelboats, and no experience is necessary; eager, experience-hungry folks are encouraged to come along and try their hand!
What happened to the keelboat racing? 2020 and beyond
The impact of the COVID 19 Pandemic had a sad impact on our club. For the first time in years, the Keelboat racing was cancelled. Since then it has been a challenge to resurrect it. 2024 saw a new direction, a new vision and new Committee members stepping into to help. A three-year plan beginning in 2024 is underway. The vision is to see racing once more at Glencoe Boat Club from 2025, and this is being actively supported by members and RYA Scotland.
